Based on the best selling Philippa Gregory novel with the same title, "The Other Boleyn Girl" tells the long untold story of the lesser known Boleyn, Mary Carey (married name), Anne's (mother of Elizabeth I) sister. Mary (Scarlett Johansson) was the first Boleyn to catch Henry VIII's attention, and she kept it for some time. Wed at 12, Mary was quickly thrust into life in the noble lane when she became one of Queen Katharine of Aragon's Ladies in Waiting. While Katharine has one child with the King, she is growing older and cannot seem to provide him with a son. When Mary is 15, she catches the eye of Henry and he seduces her, wanting to take her as a mistress. Mary's family make a plan to get her into Henry's bed, keep her in that bed and have her give Henry the son he wants. Mary's sister, Anne (Natalie Portman), and her brother George work with her daily to keep his attention. Once Anne realizes that she may be able to outdo her sister as the King's mistress into being the King's wife, she changes her mind from helping her sister to helping herself.
